‘Don’t hold back’: The secret mantra of a Mom-preneur.

They call me a wonder woman. I am a mom 24*7 and a working woman around the clock. Well, it surely isn’t easy, but then, I love to dream and live this hustle. In my short journey as an entrepreneur and now a mom, the biggest lesson that I have learnt is never to hold back. Don’t let the status-quo dictate any part of you, your heart or your brain. Dream big, and then put out everything to live that dream. Here are my 3 success secrets as a mompreneur:

1. Have high aspirations: Dream big but then let go certain things. Don’t aim for perfection in everything. Define your goals and then prioritise. After my baby, I didn't have the time for a maternity break, but I have no regrets. My passion for my venture is something that I live for. So, barely two weeks after my baby, I returned to my work. Which in part was also because of the support system that I have and that brings me to my second secret as a successful mompreneur.

2. Be demanding: Don’t hesitate to ask for help. Demand what you need, be it your personal life or professional. Unlike a few years back, we are blessed to have supportive husbands and families today that respect your job as much as your role of a mother. However, even then, you must explicitly communicate what you expect out of the other person. It could be taking care of baby’s laundry or their medicine schedule.

On the professional front, this attitude becomes even more important, not just for moms but women in general. Be demanding with respect to asking for a hike, for a better role or may be to own a project. This trait, for me, is key to reach for better in life.

3. Networking: Learn from the mistakes of others. You don’t have enough time to make them all yourself. It’s a competitive business world out there. Network with other entrepreneurs, other moms, ask them what worked for them and what did not, and you’ll always be ahead of your plan. And hey, this networking shouldn’t be a one-off affair. Follow up and build on those relationships. My venture BabyChakra is also one such networking platform for new mommies to seek out each other’s help that can help them glide through those difficult years.

Times have changed and so have people. We are fortunate to be a part of an enabling ecosystem that is both supportive of a woman’s needs and also her ambitions. So, it falls on us what we make out of it. Always try winning in one segment at a time and gradually you’ll figure out the formula for winning overall.
