History
Franklin Templeton's association with India dates to over two decades as an investor. As part of the group's major thrust on investing in markets around the world, the India office was set up in 1996 as Templeton Asset Management. Sir John Templeton founded Templeton, Dobbrow and Vance Inc.
1971
Franklin went public as Franklin Resources Inc.
1987
Led by Mr. Mark Mobius, Franklin begins investing in emerging markets and offers the first emerging markets equity fund to US invstors
1992
The Franklin and Templeton organizations merge in what was at the time the largest merger of an independent mutual fund company in history
1993
Launched India's first closed-ended & open-ended private sector equity fund.
1994
First to release Monthly Portfolios and Daily NAVs.
1995
Franklin Templeton starts India operations.
1996
Introduced SIP, STP and Group SIPs as a concept which became an industry practice
1996-2000
Launched India's first Value Strategy Fund, first private sector Pension scheme, first Floating Rate Fund & first Infotech Fund
2002
Acquired Kothari Pioneer AMC thus, becoming the largest private sector fund house in India
2003
Launched Franklin Templeton Academy. India's first AMC to launch an academy for partner education
2003-2006
Launched India's first Fund of Funds & India's first Dividend Yield Fund
2007
Franklin Templeton goes Digital in transactions and services
2008
Launched India's first fund directly investing in Asian companies
2011
Launched India's first goal based investment solutions ( Family Solutions )
2013
Introduced all trail based commission model which became an industry practice
2013
Franklin Templeton Academy goes Digital. India's first AMC to launch an online academy for partner education.
